The Tim Lord Trophy

28 Mar 2021 by Dale holland

Tim Lord was in the original Wingerworth Juniors team formed in 1985. The team started almost by chance when school matches were suspended and Tim and his mates were desperate to play and Wingerworth Jnrs were formed. This was all set up by his dad and our current club president Geoff Lord and not to forget Liz Lord. The duo have given many hours to keep the club going over the years and are still heavily involved today.

At 17 Tim joined the Wingerworth senior team. When he was tragically killed in 1991 neighbours, friends and former teammates collected towards something in his memory and a donation was made to the Intensive Care Unit at Chesterfield Royal (his sister Pippa and friends from Tupton Hall School raised £1500 for the ICU too). Originally there were 2 trophies for each of the Wingerworth teams Tim had played for. The WJSA trophy is traditionally awarded to a player (girl or boy), usually from one of the older age- group teams, who best represents the spirit of the club showing teamwork, positive attitude and enjoyment of the game.

However this year the committee decided on a different worthy winner. The last year has been a very strange one and football has been stop start. However in the background Daz Parkinson, the club chairman, has continued to drive the club forward as he has done since taking over as chairman several seasons ago. He puts many hours in arranging meetings, sorting problems and lots of ground work at the home of Wingerworth JSA, The Avenue.

There are several exciting projects Daz has got off the ground and the future of the club is looking bigger and even better.

So this seasons Tim Lord Trophy goes to Darren Parkinson – WJSA club chairman, manager, coach, groundsman …. the list could go on and on.
Many thanks Daz for all your hard work
