This month Tim would have been 47 and, even 29 years after he died, never a day passes without us thinking about the love and laughter he brought into our lives. When Geoff started Wingerworth Juniors in 1985 for Tim and his mates we had no idea what the future would hold.
Further teams were started by Terry Smith and Geoff Shaw and Wingerworth Juniors continued to grow until today when there are 14 teams (including our Under 6’s “Little Dudes”) and over 150 children participating in football.
For many years Geoff and I weren’t involved other than presenting the Tim Lord Trophy to a player annually, Thanks to Craig Hodgson and Eric Gilson about 15 years ago we got more involved but by then Wingerworth had its own ground, The Avenue, thanks to the hard work of parents, grandparents, volunteers , managers and coaches.
We hear so often folk grumbling about Wingerworth but there are many positive stories and Wingerworth Juniors is one of them.
We now have past players running teams for their children and other children from the village. Parents/grandparents, volunteers, coaches and managers you are all making a real difference. Treasure the memories, the good times and the not so good times, because when the going gets tough it is the memories that get you through the dark times.
Thank you for all you do.
